Navy lends support to COVID-19 vaccination programme

In support of the acceleration of government's COVID 19 vaccination campaign, with a view to mitigate the outbreak of Coronavirus, Sri Lanka Navy in coordination with health authorities began administering the Sinopharm vaccine to government and private sector employees engaged in essential services, at two locations in the Gampaha District today (11th May 2021).

On the instructions of His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, inoculating of citizens with COVID-19 vaccine is being carried out as an expeditious programme. Accordingly, the Navy deployed two medical teams consisting of naval doctors to carry out the vaccination programmes in the Gampaha District. As such, the Sinopharm vaccine was administered to above prioritized groups in the Wattala and Ja-Ela MOH areas.

Thus, the first dose of Sinopharm vaccine was administered today at the office of Medical Officer of Health Wattala and Ekala Niwasipura in Ja-Ela to the frontline workers of both public and private sector, from 30 to 60 years of age, who provide essential services in the face of the pandemic.

In addition, the Navy stands ready to support the health sector in the future programmes being carried out to combat the spread of COVID19.
