Navy sets up intermediate care centre for COVID 19 in Gampaha

Strengthening the Government's programme to develop the infrastructure required to treat COVID 19 contracted individuals, Sri Lanka Navy sprang into action to establish an intermediate care centre for COVID 19 in Gampaha, on 02nd May 2021.

Responding to a request made by the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka Navy, under the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, promptly came forward to shoulder this task. Accordingly, a closed factory in Werellawatta area, Gampaha is being converted as an intermediate care centre for COVID 19, utilizing manpower and technological expertise enabled by the Navy. A group of Civil and Electrical Engineering naval personnel has been attached for this special project, to see its completion at full tilt.

In the meantime, infrastructure will be developed to accommodate up to 2000 beds, taking into consideration the space available at this stand-in treatment centre.
