Rear Admiral Senarath Wijesooriya honoured in send-off salute
Relinquishing duties to which he was committed more than 34 years, Rear Admiral Senarath Wijesooriya retired from naval service today (09th April 2021).
The retiring naval officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today received warm wishes from Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne flanked by the Board of Management, before he was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. Thereupon, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the outgoing senior officer appreciative of his service rendered to the organization. Subsequently, he was sent off in a motorcade from the Navy Headquarters.
Rear Admiral Senarath Wijesooriya joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an officer cadet of the 15th intake in 1986 and had commanded various ships and establishments, during his distinguished naval career. Among key appointments held by the senior officer; Commandant Naval Recruit Training Centre - Sampoor and SLNS Shiksha, Security Coordinator Poonewa, Deputy Area Commander Northwestern, Western and Northern Naval Areas, Director Naval Welfare and Commander Southeastern and Northern Naval Areas were prominent.
