Commander of the Navy attends Square Chamber treasure-depositing ceremony at Sandahiru Stupa
The religious ceremony held for the depositing of treasures at the Square Chamber of the Sandahiru Stupa got off the ground under the auspices of Defence Secretary General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne in the sacred city of Anuradhapura this morning (28th March 2021). Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne also attended this spiritual event that was held amidst a religious setting on the ‘Medin’ full moon poya day.
Accordingly, treasures offered by the Maha Sangha and devotees, were placed in the Square Chamber of the Stupa, by members of Maha Sangha on an auspicious note, amidst chanting of ‘seth pirith’ today.
Similarly, treasures offered by the tri-forces and Civil Security Department were also deposited in the Square Chamber. In this backdrop, Commander of the Navy, enshrined treasures for which each naval person made their devoted contribution and the financial provisions for which had been made available by the Navy Buddhist Association.
Under the guidance of the 5th Executive President, also the incumbent Prime Minister, Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, the construction of this Stupa got to a begin, in memory of all the supreme sacrifices and noble services made by tri-service war veterans as well as Police and Civil Security personnel for the unity and territorial integrity of the motherland, eradicating the brutal terrorism from the country.
Further, the Defence Secretary, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, following the directives of the President His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa - then Defence Secretary, is supervising the ongoing construction work of the Stupa.
This meritorious occasion was also participated by members of Maha Sangha including General Secretary of the Malwathu Chapter, Most Venerable Rajakeeya Panditha Dr. Pahamune Sumangala Nayaka Thero, Ministers, Governor of North Central Province, Members of Parliament, Ministerial Secretaries, Commander of the Air Force, Inspector General of Police, Director General Civil Security Department, senior officers from tri-services, dignitaries and devotees.
