377 recruits of 241st intake pass out at SLNS Shiksha, Poonewa
Three hundred and seventy seven (377) recruits of 241st intake of Sri Lanka Navy’s Regular and Volunteer Forces, passed out in Poonewa on 27th March 2021, after successful completion of their basic training.
Director General Logistics and Director General Budget and Finance, Rear Admiral Udaya Hettiarachchi, as the Chief Guest, graced the colourful passing out parade held at the main parade ground of Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Shiksha and took the salute. The ceremony, held in a dignified sequence, saw trophies were awarded to recruits who excelled during their basic training period.
Accordingly, Recruit RNNW Jayathilake was adjudged the Best Recruit of 241st intake and won the award for his achievement. Meanwhile, Recruit DMNW Dissanayake won the award for securing the highest aggregate in overall subjects. Further, Recruit BMNK Basnayake and Recruit LMNS Bandara won respective awards for the Best Marksman and Best Sportsman of the 241st intake. Meanwhile, “Dhathusena” Division became the Best Division of the entire intake. A fascinating drill display presented by the recruits of 241st intake and sparkling performances of the Navy Band and Cultural Troupe also added much glamour to the evening.
The proceedings of the eventful ceremony had been organized adhering to COVID-19 regulations stipulated by health authorities. The event was attended by a restricted number of personnel including religious dignitaries, Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Dias, Commandant SLNS Shiksha, Commodore MSK Mahawatta, officers and sailors from the Navy, senior officers from the sister services, Police and Civil Security Department, government officials and parents of newly passed out sailors.
