New Deputy Chief of Staff calls on Commander of the Navy

Rear Admiral Meril Sudarshana, after having assumed office as the Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Navy on 21st March 2021, called on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters today (26th March 2021).

Rear Admiral Meril Sudarshana who is a proud product of S. Thomas' College – Gurutalawa, joined Sri Lanka Navy on 28th February 1986 as an Officer Cadet of 14th intake, in the Executive branch.

He is an Anti-submarine Warfare specialist and has commanded many ships, craft and shore establishments during his distinguished career. He has also held important appointments as Director Naval Personnel, Provost Marshal, Director Sports, Naval Officer in Charge (Welisara), Director Naval Research Wing, Director General Personnel and Naval Assistant to Commander of the Navy. Apart from that, the senior officer has also served as the Minister Counsellor (Defence) to Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington, D.C. as well.

Rear Admiral Meril Sudarshana was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy with effect from 21st March 2021, whilst he was holding the office of Commander Western Naval Area. Therefore, in addition to the recent appointment, he will continue to discharge duties as Commander Western Naval Area.
