Navy enables manpower to put up library building for Sri Gunarathna Primary School
The new library building erected utilizing manpower enabled by the Navy at Paragoda Sri Gunarathna Primary School, Imaduwa was declared open for school children on 25th February 2021. The opening of the new facility was presided over by Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera.
The Navy got ahead with construction of the library building as part of its Social Responsibility initiative, commencing from 19th January 2021. The project was sponsored by Mr. Dillan Ariyawansa, a philanthropist in the United States, and his family members. The opening ceremony held under the patronage of Commander Southern Naval Area was also joined by the beloved parents of Mr. Dillan Ariyawansa. With the availability of this new facility, the school was able to fulfill a long-felt need for the betterment of school children.
The event was held adhering to COVID -19 preventive guidelines and the occasion was attended by Deputy Area Commander Southern Naval Command, Commodore Aruna Thennakoon, Commanding Officer SLNS Dakshina, a group of naval personnel as well as the Principal, staff members and children of the school.
