Navy-built 821st RO plant vested with public at Umandawa Maha Vihara Monastery, Melsiripura
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne declared open the navy-installed 821st Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant at Umandawa Maha Vihara Monastery in Melsiripura today (24th February 2021). Erected by the initiatives of Ministry of Healthcare, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine as well as manpower and technological expertise extended by Sri Lanka Navy, the project materialized as yet another Naval Social Responsibility drive.
Being a frontrunner in the national effort of eradication of the chronic kidney disease from the country, Sri Lanka Navy set afoot the installation of this RO plant on 27th November 2020. The new facility made available at the monastery will here on fulfil safe drinking water requirement of devotees visiting Umandawa Maha Vihara Monastery, people of Madahapola Grama Niladhari Division and surrounding villages. At the invitation of the founder and Chief Incumbent of Umandawa Maha Vihara Monastery, Ven. Pitiduwe Siridhamma Thero, Commander of the Navy presided over the opening of Reverse Osmosis facility. Subsequent to which the event saw the newly-built ‘Seetha Maligaya’ shrine room being vested in Maha Sangha under the auspices of Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, in a spiritual setting.
The events which were held in accordance with COVID-19 protocols in place for the arrest of the spread of the pandemic were attended by members of Maha Sangha including Ven. Pitiduwe Siridhamma Thero, Commander Northwestern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Bandula Senarathna, senior officers and sailors of Northwestern Naval Command, Senior Deputy Inspector General North Western Province and residents of the area.
