Commander of the Navy hands over letters of appointment to 34 Direct Entry officers and lady officers
A ceremony to hand over letters of appointment to newly enlisted 34 Direct Entry officers and lady officers was held under the auspices of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium, Navy Headquarters today (15th January 2021).
Accordingly, today’s ceremony saw 13 newly enlisted officers of Regular Naval Force and 21 officers of Volunteer Naval Force, including 08 lady officers, receiving their letters of appointment from Commander of the Navy. Addressing the gathering, Vice Admiral Ulugetenne at the outset extended best wishes for the prospective naval officers and welcomed them warmly to the proud naval family.
Adding further, he expressed that these officers had turned a whole new chapter of their lives and they would be given proper training that could make them physically and mentally robust to face any challenge in life. He was also confident that training would bring about the best out of them, making an officer with strong physical and mental stamina. Making them aware on a wide ranging opportunities and rewards on offer in the Navy, Commander of the Navy urged each individual to grab those opportunities with both hands, with firm determination. Apart from that, he underlined the importance of four main characteristics namely; Honesty, Loyalty, Dedication and Courage upon which their career to be poised, for a successful voyage in the Navy. Finally, Vice Admiral Ulugetenne expressed his gratitude to the proud parents of the newly enlisted officers and lady officers for giving their consent to their sons and daughters to pursue a noble career.
The proceedings of the event were held in accordance with health and safety guidelines due to COVID-19 concerns and it was attended by senior officers from the Navy Headquarters as well as parents of newly enlisted officers.
