Navy bids farewell to Rear Admiral D Wijetunga
Rear Admiral D Wijetunga today (31st December 2020) retired from naval service, upon completion of his distinguished career spanning over 34 years in the Sri Lanka Navy.
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne along with the Director Generals extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Wijetunga was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions before fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer. Subsequently, the senior officer was sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of senior and junior sailors.
Rear Admiral D Wijetunga joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1986 and had rendered a creditable service to the organization while holding key appointments such as; Commodore Superintendent of Logistics in Northwestern, Northern and Western Naval Commands, Director Naval Pay & Pension, Director Naval Local Procurement, Director Naval Logistics, Director Naval Budget and Director Integrated Logistics Management System and Director Naval Foreign Procurement in his distinguished naval career.
