Commander of the Navy attends series of programmes graced by Hon. Prime Minister to mark World Children’s Day and 125th anniversary of LRH
The ceremonial event to mark the World Children’s Day that falls today (01st October) and 125th anniversary of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH) for Children was graced by the Prime Minister, Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa and the occasion was also attended by Commander of the Navy Vice, Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.
Accordingly, the Prime Minister, Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open a newly constructed bone marrow transplant unit and operation theater and laid foundation stone for the construction of a nine-storeyed intensive care and surgical ward complex, being built with manpower enabled by Sri Lanka Navy, to improve pediatric patient care services.
Sri Lanka Navy has already initiated a number of projects to develop the infrastructure facilities of the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital and the construction of the 12-storeyed Cardiac and Shoulder Intensive Care Ward Complex is being carried out with the manpower enabled by the Navy. The Navy is also set to undertake the construction of another four-storeyed ward complex in 2021, as its second phase. Currently, 03 Navy Civil Engineering officers and a team of 235 naval personnel from the Civil Engineering and Electrical Departments are labouring their time and manpower for this construction project. Moreover, Sri Lanka Navy also took lead to carry out a large number of renovations to the hospital in a bid to control the COVID -19 pandemic situation.
The occasion was also attended by Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa, the spouse of Hon. Prime Minister, Hon. Pavithradevi Wanniarachchi, Minister of Health, Members of Parliament, healthcare officials from the LRH and government officials.
