Commander of the Navy Chief Guest at SBS insignia awarding ceremony
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne presided over a ceremony held at the SBS Headquarters, Naval Dockyard in Trincomalee on 10th September 2020, to award insignia to 03 officers and 29 sailors of the 27th intake of the Navy's Special Boats Squadron (SBS), on successful completion of their training.
The event which was held in a dignified manner was inclusive of a wide range of exercises and displays featured by SBS personnel exhibiting their skills. Those who excelled during this training were presented with special awards by Commander of the Navy, in recognition of their outstanding performances.
Accordingly, Sub Lieutenant JADC Jayanayaka, who gained the highest aggregate in overall subjects, was adjudged the Most Excellent SBS Member. Further, Sub Lieutenant MRH Perera received the awards for both Best Marksman and the Best Sportsman. Meanwhile, Ordinary Seaman WMDD Dissanayaka won the award for the SBS Member with Highest Physical Endurance.
Addressing the gathering, Commander of the Navy stated that; going by the motto of the Special Boat Squadron, ‘Fortune Favours the Brave’, the SBS always stands ready in protecting the independence and territorial integrity of the island nation. He also said that the SBS had tremendously contributed for the elimination of 3 decade long ruthless terrorism from the country and praised the capabilities of SBS personnel who could brave land, sea or air alike with the high level of morale.
The occasion was also attended by the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne, Commander Eastern Naval Area, Commanding Officer of SBS, senior officers from the Navy Headquarters and Eastern Naval Command and near and dear ones of the naval personnel who completed training.
