Commander of the Navy visits Eastern Naval Command
After assuming office as the 24th Commander of Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne paid his maiden visit to the Eastern Naval Command on 10th September 2020.
During the visit, Vice Admiral Ulugetenne inspected divisions of ships and establishments of the Eastern Naval Command, at the main parade ground of Naval and Maritime Academy. Addressing naval personnel of the Eastern Naval Command, the Commander of the Navy emphasized the need to keep with the Divisional System and put emphasis on that naval personnel should not be addicted to various types of narcotics. The Commander of the Navy also extended his profound gratitude to the Eastern Naval Command for its cooperation in the testing times of the fight against COVD-19.
After a discussion with the Commander Eastern Naval Area and Heads of Departments of the Command regarding the role and task of the Eastern Naval Area, Commander of the Navy inspected the ongoing construction projects at the Naval Dockyard. The Commander of the Navy also inaugurated the expanded administrative building of the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla and launched the refurbished Fast Attack Craft P 491, after a major refit at No.3 slipway undertaken by Commodore Superintendent Dockyard (East) Staff.
The present Commander of the Navy who served as the Commanding Officer of the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla in 2006 and 2007 also remains to be the very first Training Officer of the Flotilla. Furthermore, Commander of the Navy took time off to inspect the ongoing projects of Electrical New Design Centre at the Eastern Naval Command, which went on to develop the Steering Control System of the refurbished Fast Attack Craft P 491. The Commander of the Navy after reviewing the rest of the projects undertaken by the Electrical New Design Centre, gave directives to continue with the good work to undertake indigenous methods through innovation, for the sustenance of the fleet.
During this visit to the dockyard, Commander of the Navy paid special attention to the infrastructure development at the Naval Dockyard and held discussions with the Area Commander and Heads of Departments on the provision of high quality accommodation for sailors and the creation of a top notch work environment.
Commander Eastern Naval Area, Deputy Area Commander and a group of senior and junior officers also joined this tour of inspection of Commander of the Navy.
