Commander of the Navy visits ICGS Ameya

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne met with the Commanding Officer of Indian Coast Guard Ship Ameya, Commandant (JG) AK Pandey in Trincomalee today (10th September 2020) and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the all-out support rendered by the Indian Coast Guard in managing the disaster situation onboard MT New Diamond.

While appreciating the praiseworthy role played by the Indian Coast Guard during the entire firefighting effort following the crude oil tanker catching fire in the sea area east of Sri Lanka, Commander of the Navy specially extended his profound gratitude to the Commanding Officer and ship’s crew of ICGS Ameya for being resolute throughout this collaborative operation.

The controlled fire onboard MT New Diamond turned into raging flames following the inclement weather on 07th September. In such circumstances Commander of the Navy contacted the Director General of Indian Coast Guard and at a short notice the ongoing firefighting mission was intensified with Dry Chemical Powder and fire extinguishing agents rushed in by the Indian Coast Guard. Incidentally, the Commander of the Navy was also grateful for this expeditious gesture, in the hour of need.

To signify this occasion, mementoes were exchanged between both parties.
