Naval personnel buckle down to make trash free coastal belt
Several beach cleaning campaigns set in motion by the Navy came to a successful end in Northern and Southern Naval Commands recently.
Sri Lanka Navy makes a significant contribution for the protection of the coastal belt around the island at all times. Continuing this praiseworthy endeavour ahead, the beach sides of Neelakkadu, Kalmunai Point, Mankumban, Oththappanei, Kadeikadu, Perumkadu, Sambilithurei and Kankesanthurai harbour in Northern Naval Command were cleaned by Navy, restoring their previous attractiveness. Meanwhile the beaches located at Galle Fort, Goyambokka in Tangalle and Hambantota fisheries harbour were also made free of plastic and polythene as a result of the timely intervention of the Navy.
Taking the pandemic of COVID-19 into consideration, all these programmes had been conducted adhering to the guidelines declared by health authorities. These clean-up efforts were joined by a large number of naval personnel attached to the Northern and Southern Commands. Being an organization that always exhibits its instinctive passion for coastal conservation activities, the Navy will continue to undertake similar programmes in the future as well.
