Navy’s marine environment protection initiatives recognized at JASTECA Awards 2019

In recognition of the endeavours carried out for marine environment protection, the Sri Lanka Navy received a special accolade at the awards ceremony organized by the Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA) in Colombo on 22nd August 2020. JASTECA has announced this awards ceremony to encourage entities to adopt Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, going beyond their statutory obligations.

On behalf of the Sri Lanka Navy, Acting Director General Services received this special award at the Ian Dias Abeysinghe Memorial JASTECA CSR Sustainability Awards 2019 and it was formally handed over to Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters on 24th August 2020.

The Navy has been conducting a wide array of marine environment protection initiatives which include turtle conservation, mangrove replanting, coral conservation and replanting, prevention of illegal fishing practices, beach cleaning and plastic recycling and up cycling projects, in view of making better marine environment for the future generation.
