Navy takes lead again in beach cleaning campaigns
With a view to maintain the pristine condition of the beautiful coastal belt around the island, Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting beach cleaning programmes with great passion. On the sidelines of these initiatives, the Navy carried out another series of beach cleaning drives in the northern and southern beach sides during the past week.
Incidentally, the Northern Naval Command volunteered to clean-up the beach sides of Kankesanthurai harbour, Casuarina in Karainagar, Chatty and Karappan in Kayts, Kadaikadu in Vettalakeni, beach around the Delft Island, Kurikadduwan beach in Punkudutivu and the beach of Wettiyarkulam fishing harbour. In a similar vein, the Southern Naval Command too engaged in clean-up efforts by restoring the attractiveness of the beach area leading to the Galle town from the Command Headquarters, Paraviwella beach in Tangalle and the beach front of Hambantota town.
The naval personnel engaged in these well-intentioned efforts, collected heaps of plastic and polythene that littered those sandy beaches and all these programmes had been conducted adhering to the health care guidelines which are in place to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic.
