Navy General Hospital introduces new medicine-delivery mechanism
The Navy, with effect from 17th August 2020, is to introduce a new mechanism to deliver medicine at the doorstep of patients who are receiving treatment from the clinics run by Navy General Hospital, Colombo.
Going by an idea mooted by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne this new programme has been introduced to cater to the medicinal needs of a range of beneficiaries including the family members of naval personnel Killed in Action (KIA) and went Missing in Action (MIA), retired naval personnel upon Wounded in Action (WIA) and close relatives of their families, serving naval personnel and their family members and naval personnel who went on retirement on completion of service as well as their spouses. This timely initiative focuses on the delivery of pharmaceutical drugs, excluding cold chain drugs like insulin, to the very residences of those patients receiving treatments from the clinics of Navy General Hospital.
Under this drive, it is expected to dispatch medicine prescribed for long-term ailments such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma, chronic kidney disease, pregnancy as well as eye, skin, neurological and psychiatric ailments. In order to receive pharmaceutical drugs, the patients are expected to forward images of their last prescription issued by consultant physicians along with the family treatment form with registration number, telephone number and the address for receipt of medicine and Grama Niladhari Division via WhatsApp, Viber or Imo to 076 3305033.
However, if there are individuals to obtain cold chain drugs like insulin, such individuals may arrive at the Navy General Hospital and they will be issued aforesaid drugs subjected to the prescription of medics.
