Navy Commander calls on Admiral of the Fleet, Wasantha Karannagoda

Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne who was appointed as the 24th Commander of Sri Lanka Navy paid a courtesy call on Admiral of the Fleet, Wasantha Karannagoda in Ethul Kotte on 10th August 2020.

Admiral of the Fleet, Wasantha Karannagoda became the first naval officer to hold the prestigious five-star rank, in the annals of Sri Lanka Navy. The senior officer, as the 15th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy from 2005 to 2009, played a remarkable role during the Humanitarian Operation with his wealth of experience and introduced a wide array of strategies to the Navy, which paved the way to ward off the brutality of terrorism from motherland.

Further, Admiral of the Fleet, Wasantha Karannagoda, during his tenure as the Navy Commander, handpicked the present Commander of the Navy and shouldered him the responsibility to spearhead the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla, the teeth arm of Sri Lanka Navy from January 2006 to July 2007. Remaining true to the selection, Vice Admiral Ulugetenne as then Commanding Officer of the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla played a noteworthy role during the Humanitarian Operation.

After exchange of pleasantries they held a cordial discussion on several matters which are of interest to the progression of Sri Lanka Navy. The occasion turned out to be the first official meeting between the top brass, following Vice Admiral Ulugetenne reached the helm as the incumbent Navy Chief. Marking the significance of this occasion mementoes were also exchanged.
