Command of SLNS ‘Sayura’ changes hands
Captain Buddhika Rupasinghe took over command as the new Commanding Officer of the Offshore Patrol Vessel, SLNS Sayura today (06th August 2020).
The former Commanding Officer of the ship, Captain Nilantha Hewawitharana formally handed over duties to his successor at the Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee in the presence of Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Bandara Jayathilake.
Acquired in the year 2000 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy, this Offshore Patrol Vessel remained to be the biggest ship to be owned by the Navy for many years. She played a praiseworthy role in a number of naval operations including the destruction of LTTE floating armouries during the Humanitarian Operation. Continuing her noble service for the country, the ship till date remains to patrol the territorial waters of the island nation.
