Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, after assumption of duties as the 24th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, made his mark of respect to fallen naval combatants, at a wreath - laying ceremony held at the Naval War Hero Monument in Welisara today (31th July 2020). The event has been organized to glorify the memory of naval war heroes who made supreme sacrifice during naval operations that helped eradicate terrorism from the motherland.

The solemn occasion which was held in compliance with time-honoured naval traditions, paid a glowing tribute to naval war heroes who perished and went missing in combat. The event was also attended by Director Generals, Commander Western Naval Area, senior naval officers and a group of sailors.

Reminding the utmost service of those brave souls of Sri Lanka Navy, who sacrificed their lives and limbs for a better tomorrow of the nation and its countrymen, Commander of the Navy also took time off to pay his heartfelt gratitude to the naval family members who suffered losses.
