Navy holds a person engaged in illegal fishing

A person who engaged in illegal fishing was apprehended by Navy during a patrol carried out at Kalapukattuwa lagoon area in Arugambay on 12^th July 2020.

Sri Lanka Navy constantly conducts patrols to curb the illegal means of fishing in order to preserve marine resources. As such extension, this suspect who engaged in illegal fishing using banned net was apprehended at Kalapukattuwa lagoon area in Arugambay during a patrol conducted by a team of naval personnel attached to Southeastern Naval Command. A banned net, a craft used by him and 08kg of fish were taken into custody.

The suspect is a resident of the same area, aged 61. Apprehended person along with the unauthorized net, fishing craft and illegally caught fish were handed over to the Pothuvil Police for further investigation.
