Series of beach cleaning programme conducted by Northern Naval Command
Another series of beach cleaning drives conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in view of conservation of coastal line, was launched in the Northern Naval Command on 11th and 12th July 2020.
Many beach clean-up drives were held at the beach areas in Northern area under the guidance of the Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera, to augment the initiatives of the Green and Blue Project of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. Officers and sailors attached to the Northern Naval Command actively took part in these events and successfully marked the day’s end removing heaps of garbage including plastic and polythene scattered along the beach areas of Kankasanthurai port, Nainathivu, Allappiddi, Chettiyarkulam,Wallan, Mawelithurai to Sillalei and Kalaikuda.
These programmes were held in conformity with the health guidelines and measures to mitigate COVID-19 pandemic. Through the conservative campaigns of this nature Sri Lanka Navy dedicatedly acts to maintain a garbage free attractive beach line around the island.
