Newly erected ‘Pahan Weta’ at Nagadeepa Raja Maha Viharaya declared open
Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera declared open the new ‘Pahan Weta’ (fence of oil lamps) built by Sri Lanka Navy at the Nagadeepa Raja Maha Viharaya, on 04th July 2020.
The Sri Lanka Navy has commenced the construction of a new fence of oil lamps at the Nagadeepa Raja Maha Viharaya which is an ancient Buddhist temple situated in Jaffna as well as an important landmark in Sri Lankan Buddhist history. The new ‘Pahan Weta’ also has a neat covering from each side fitting to the religious significance of the temple. The opening of the new fence of oil lamps was held under the auspices of Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera on the Esala Full Moon Poya Day (04th July). The construction of this beautiful creation was undertaken by the Command Civil Engineering Department.
Subsequent to the opening ceremony, the Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera and rest of the officers and sailors present on this occasion attended a Bodhi Puja Pinkama as well.
