Navy assists apprehension of 02 suspects with heroin

The Navy apprehended 02 suspects in possession of heroin, during a coordinated search conducted with the Police Anti-corruption Unit in the general area of Hambantota on 04^th July 2020.

The Navy has been conducting regular anti-drug operations island wide to wage its war on drug smuggling and was able to make this apprehension as an extension of those efforts. Accordingly, naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command together with Hambantota Police Anti-corruption Unit searched a suspicious motorbike at the Hambantota Magistrate Court. During this search the security personnel managed to find about 2.351g of heroin in possession of the 02 suspects on the motorbike. As such, the 02 suspects along with the motorbike were taken into custody.

The accused were identified as residents of Tissamaharama area. The 02 suspects along with the motorbike and drugs were handed over to the Hambantota Police for onward legal action.
