Newly constructed Rappelling Tower declared open at SBS HQ
The newly constructed Rappelling Tower at the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) was declared open by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva on 03rd July 2020.
This special platform is used to safely practice rappelling by military personnel as part of their tactical training. Fulfilling a long-felt need of the SBS personnel, this tower for rappelling was built by the Navy Civil Engineering Department. To mark the event more attractive, personnel of the SBS performed a skill display which included Abseiling, Skid Rappelling, Australian Rappelling, Abseiling Head First, Fast Rope Insertion and Extraction (FRIEs), scenario of a Rescue Mission, Window Entry and finally a Confident Jump. This Rappelling Tower is the first-ever fully-fledged Rappelling Training Tower Facility in the Sri Lanka Navy, with a height of 60 feet.
