Illicit liquor den in Poonewa raided by Navy, person taken into custody

The Navy raided an illicit liquor den and apprehended a person with a stock of illicit liquor, during a foot patrol conducted in Weditibbagala, Poonewa on 02^nd July 2020.

While playing a pivotal role for the defence of the country, the Navy has also been conducting regular operations to curb illegal activities performed by a handful of lawbreakers. Accordingly, a group of naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command had raided a place where illicit liquor being distilled in Weditibbagala, Poonewa on 02^nd July. During the raid, a suspect with 30 litres of ‘goda’, 10 litres of spirit and several equipment used to distil illicit liquor were taken into custody.

The accused was identified as a resident of the same area, aged 50. Meanwhile, the suspect along with seized items were handed over to the Medawachchiya Police for onward action.
