Navy assists apprehension of person concealing elephant tusks

The Navy apprehended a person for hiding 02 elephant tusks in a house, during a coordinated search conducted with the Special Task Force and Department of Wild Life Conservation in New Town – Katharagama on 28^th June 2020.

Naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command together with Special Task Force, Ambalantota and Department of Wild Life Conservation, Katharagama conducted a coordinated search in New Town – Katharagama on 28^th June. During this operation the raiding party managed to find 02 elephant tasks kept under falsified documents. The 94cm long tusk weighed 04kg and 150g, meanwhile the 101.5cm long tusk weighed about 05kg and 750g.

The accused was identified as a 58 year old resident of the same area. The suspect together with falsified documents and tusks was handed over to the Department of Wild Life Conservation, Katharagama for onward action.
