Navy seizes unauthorized fishing nets cast in Batticaloa lagoon

The Navy seized 03 unauthorized fishing nets cast in Kotuwamada area, during a patrol conducted in Batticaloa lagoon on 21^st June 2020.

Due to its negative environmental impact, the Navy continues to conduct regular patrols to apprehend people who are engaging in illegal fishing activates with unauthorized fishing gear. Accordingly, naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, while patrolling the Batticaloa lagoon, found these 03 unauthorized fishing nets (each about 100ft in length) cast in Kotuwamada.

The seized unauthorized nets were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries, Batticaloa for onward investigation.
