Navy recovers 02 unauthorized fishing nets hidden underwater
The Navy managed to recover 02 unauthorized fishing nets hidden underwater, during a patrol conducted in the Walaithottam sea area on 19th June 2020.
Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting a number of patrols in view of apprehending people engaging in illegal fishing activities which cause harmful impact on marine ecosystem. Accordingly, naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, during a patrol conducted in the Walaithottam sea area, managed to find 02 unauthorized fishing nets (each was about 185m in length) hidden underwater.
The seized fishing nets were subsequently handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries in Trincomalee for onward action.
