Navy assists apprehension of person in possession of local cannabis.

The Navy apprehended a person with 3.725kg of local cannabis, during a coordinated operation conducted with the Hambantota Police Anti-Corruption Unit in Walasmulla area on 17^th June 2020.

Sri Lanka Navy has been playing a pivotal role in support of the national effort to create a drug- free society. As an extension of these operations, naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command, in coordination with the Hambantota Police Anti-Corruption Unit, carried out an operation in Walasmulla area on 17^th June 2020. During this operation, a suspicious person was detected and about 3.725kg of local cannabis made ready to be sold was recovered in his possession. Accordingly, the suspect along with cannabis was taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as a 40 year old resident of Walasmulla area. The accused along with local cannabis was handed over to the Walasmulla Police for onward legal action.
