Navy apprehends person with stock of sea turtle flesh
The Navy apprehended a person with a stock of sea turtle flesh at the roadblock in Madithaweli, Jaffna on 18th July 2020.
Accordingly, a group of naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command held this suspect with 15kg of sea turtle flesh at the roadblock erected in Madithaweli, Jaffna. The apprehended person was identified as a 41 year old resident of Punkudutivu. The accused along with the stock of turtle flesh was handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Velani for onward action.
Sri Lanka Navy, going by the Green and Blue Drive’ mooted by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, has taken many steps for the conservation of sea turtles which are classified as threatened or endangered due to a number of human actions.
