Navy apprehends 08 individuals for using unauthorized nets for fishing

The Navy apprehended 08 persons with 13 unauthorized fishing nets, during a search operation conducted with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, in Wediyadi on the Analathvu Island on 12^th June 2020.

The Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting regular search operations t nab those using unauthorized fishing nets to catch fish. During a similar operation, naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command in coordination with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard conducted a special search off the Analathvu Island and nabbed these 08 individuals who were using unauthorized nets for fishing practices. Along with the suspects, 13 unauthorized fishing nets were also taken into naval custody.

The accused who are from 19 to 48 years of age were identified as residents of the Analathvu Island. Meanwhile, the apprehended persons together with the seized items were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Kayts for onward action.
