Navy conducts tree planting programme at Muhudu Maha Viharaya
Sri Lanka Navy conducted a tree planting programme at the historic Muhudu Maha Vihara in Pottuvil on 11th June 2020. The Muhudu Maha Vihara premises situated in Pottuvil also has an archaeological value.
Following an order of the Defense Secretary, Major General (Retired) Kamal Gunaratne a Naval sub unit was recently established to protect this historic temple and its site. The tree planting programme was organized by the naval personnel attached to the recently established Naval sub unit. The event conducted as part of the ‘Green and Blue Drive’ mooted by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, was also attended by Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Senarath Wijesuriya and naval personnel attached to the command.
The Navy has also installed a Reverse Osmosis plant at the Muhudu Maha Viharaya premises of late. Further, the Navy will stand ready to implement similar social responsibility projects in future as well.
