Navy assists to apprehend four persons with illegal stock of white sandalwood
Four persons who were illegally transporting a stock of about 158kg of white sandalwood, were apprehended during a joint operation carried out in Hambanthota area by Navy with Police Anti Corruption Unit-Hambanthota, on 11th June 2020.
Sri Lanka Navy contributes frequently in the operations conducted for prevention of illegal activities. As such, a team of naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command in coordination with Police Anti Corruption Unit-Hambanthota, conducted a special operation in Hambanthota area. During the operation, a suspicious small lorry and a small van were searched and recovered 158kg of white sandalwood which were being illegally transported in these vehicles. Accordingly, the stock of white sandalwood, small lorry, small van along with four persons travelled in these vehicles were apprehended.
The apprehended suspects are residents of Bogahakumbura in Welimada and Ambalangoda areas aged between 24 -42. The suspects, stock of white sandalwood and two vehicles were handed over to Hambanthota Police for onward investigation.
