Navy holds banned net found in dinghy
SL Navy recovered a banned fishing net in a dinghy at Seenamweli beach in Trincomalee, during a search carried out on 10th June 2020.
SL Navy conducts constant patrols in the seas around the island and in coastal areas, in order to prevent illegal measures of fishing. Accordingly, a group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, on foot patrol, had observed a group of fishermen who were suspiciously moving towards shore from a landed dinghy. By searching this suspicious dinghy a banned fishing net was recovered. Accordingly, the dinghy, unauthorized fishing net and other fishing gear were apprehended by the Navy.
The dinghy, fishing net and other fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Trincomalee for onward investigation.
