Person with stock of fish caught using explosive apprehended by Navy

A person with a stock of fish caught using dynamite, was apprehended during a search operation conducted by Navy in coordination with Assistant Directorate of Fisheries-Jaffna, in Kakathivu area, on 08^th June 2020.

SL Navy is conducting frequent operations to curb illegal fishing practices and such operation was conducted jointly by a team of naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command and Assistant Directorate of Fisheries-Jaffna, in Kakathivu area, Jaffna. Accordingly, a fish collection center in the area was searched and found a stock of fish caught by using dynamite which weighs around 800kg. The fish stock, 80 Nos. of fish boxes and a fishing net weighing about 200kg were apprehended along with a person stayed there.

The apprehended person is a resident of Vauniya area aged 22. Further investigation on the suspect, fish stock, net and other items are conducted by Assistant Directorate of Fisheries-Jaffna.
