Navy assists apprehension of person with a stock of illegal cigarettes

The Navy managed to apprehend a person with a stock of illegal cigarettes, during a search carried out with the Police in Poruthota area, Negombo on 08^th June 2020.

Accordingly, the Navy in coordination with the office of Assistant Superintendent of Police in Negombo conducted this search operation in Poruthota area. During the operation security personnel managed to find 450 packets of foreign cigarette made ready to be sold in a suspicious house. A suspect was also held in connection to the incident.

The accused was identified as a 54 year old resident of Poruthota in Kochchikade. The office of Assistant Superintendent of Police in Negombo is conducting further investigation into the incident.
