Navy assists apprehension of suspect with gold worth over Rs. 1.1 million
The Navy apprehended a suspect with gold weighing over 109g, during a special search carried out with the Police Crime Division in Mannar in the town area of Mannar on 07th June 2020.
Based on a tip-off received by the North Central Naval Command, a group of naval personnel attached to the command conducted this operation with the assistance of the Police Crime Division in the town area of Mannar. During this operation a suspicious person at the main bus stand was searched and the security personnel managed to find over 109g of gold in his possession. Accordingly, the suspect along with gold was taken into custody for carrying gold without a valid pass.
The value of the seized consignment of gold has been estimated to be over Rs. 1.1 million. Meanwhile, the suspect who is a 37 year old resident of Harapuram in Mannar together with gold was handed over to the Mannar Police for onward investigation.
