Navy apprehends 07 persons for engaging in fishing with unauthorized fishing nets
Seven (07) persons who engaged in illegal fishing using unauthorized nets were apprehended by Navy, during a patrol carried out in the seas off Boulder Point in Trincomalee on 30th May 2020.
Sri Lanka Navy constantly conducts patrols to curb illegal means of fishing in order to preserve marine resources. During a similar patrol, naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command managed to nab these 07 persons who were engaging in illegal fishing using unauthorized nets in the seas off Boulder Point. Along with the suspects, 01 dinghy, 01 outboard motor and several other fishing gear were taken into naval custody.
The accused were identified as residents of Pulmoddai area, from 21 to 38 years of age. The suspects along with the seized items were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Kuchchaveli for onward investigation.
