RO plant installed by Navy at Muhudu Maha Viharaya declared open for the use of general public

A Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant installed under the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, at the historical Muhudu Maha Viharaya in Pothuvil, was declared open by the Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Senarath Wijesooriya, on 28^th May 2020.

Accordingly, this RO plant system was installed making use of the Navy’s manpower and funds of the Ministry of Heath, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, in a bid to quench the drinking water requirement of the people in the area around Muhudu Maha Viharaya in Pothuvil. The RO plant which was declared open amidst the blessings of Maha Sanga, is capable of providing drinking water for residents of the area and the devotees who come to worship the historical temple as well. The chief incumbent of the Muhudu Maha Viharaya, other monks of temple and the area, Divisional Secretary-Pothuvil, Deputy Area Commander, a crowd including people in the area and naval personnel were present on this occasion.

The people in the area who are suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease will be mostly facilitated by this RO plant, with their daily requirement of drinking water. Further, as a partner of the national programme on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease, SL Navy is determined to install more RO plants to provide pure drinking water for the people in areas where high prevalence of kidney disease is recorded.
