Navy seizes unauthorized fishing nets

During two search operations conducted at the beach lines of Kovilkodieruppu area in Trincomalee and Palchenei area in Kadiraweli on 26^th May 2020, the Navy managed to find unauthorized nets being hidden in these areas.

The Navy regularly conducts operations to prevent illegal fishing activities in the waters around Sri Lanka. As an extension of these operations, the Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command managed to seize 02 unauthorized nets of 140ft in length which had been hidden by the persons engage in illegal fishing, during search operations conducted at the beach lines of Kovilkodieruppu area in Trincomalee and Palchenei area in Kadiraweli. The Navy was assisted by the officials of Assistant Directorate of Fisheries in Batticaloa for the search at Palchenei beach area in Kadiraweli.

The unauthorized nets detained by the Navy handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries in Batticaloa for onward action.
