Navy holds three persons engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets
Three (03) persons who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets in the seas south west of Norway island off Trincomalee harbour, were apprehended during a search operation carried out by Navy on 23rd May 2020.
SL Navy conducts continuous patrols and search operations to curb the illegal fishing practices. Accordingly, these suspects who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets were apprehended by Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command during a patrol carried out in the seas south west of Norway island off Trincomalee harbour. Navy also seized 40kg of illegally caught fish, 225m long banned net, a dinghy and an OBM used by them.
The suspects are residents of Muthur area aged between 30 to 38. They along with the dinghy, banned net, OBM and illegally caught fish were handed over to Assistant Directorate of Fisheries-Trincomalee for onward action.
