Navy assists apprehension of suspect with equipment used for illegal brewing of local liquor

Sri Lanka Navy in coordination with Police STF apprehended a person with equipment used for illegal brewing of local liquor, during a raid conducted in Matara area on 11th May 2020.

While playing a key role in arresting the spread of the new coronavirus within the county, Sri Lanka Navy has also been conducting operations to strengthen the security of the country and curb illegal activities. Accordingly, during a raid conducted in Matara area by a group of naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command in coordination with Police STF-Kokmaduwa, apprehended a person with 02 gas hearths, 3.5m long copper spring, 01 barrel and few other gear used for illegal brewing of local liquor.

The apprehended person was identified as a resident of Katharagama area, aged 38. The suspect along with illicit equipment was handed over to Excise Station-Kotawila for onward action.
