Navy clears the blockage under Wakwella Bridge to avert possible threat of flooding
The Navy removed branches and debris collected at the underside of Wakwella Bridge in Galle and made its free flow of water, as prior preparation of averting a possible threat of flooding, on 10th May 2020.
With the inclement weather in the forthcoming season, the water level of Gin Ganga is expected to be increased.As a prior preparation for possible flood situation, the underside of the Wakwella bridge over the Gin Ganga which was blocked with large bamboo trees, branches of trees and debris, were removed. Under the guidance of Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kassapa Paul, a team of Navy divers along with naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command engaged in this strenuous task and made free down flow of water.
SL Navy is on alert to respond any situation bounded with the safety of the countrymen even while contributing in the campaigns to control the pandemic situation.
