Three persons engaged in illegal fishing with banned nets apprehended by Navy

Three (03) persons who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets, were apprehended by Navy during a search operation carried out in the seas off Trincomalee harbour, on 07^th May 2020.

Continuous patrols and search operations are being carried out by SL Navy to prevent the illegal fishing practices. Accordingly, these suspects who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets were apprehended by Naval personnel attached to Eastern Naval Command, by searching a suspicious dinghy whilst a patrol carried out in the seas off Trincomalee harbour. Navy also seized the dinghy, 01 banned net and 01 OBM.

The suspects are residents of Kinniya area in Trincomalee. They along with the dinghy, net and OBM were handed over to Assistant Directorate of Fisheries-Trincomalee for onward action.
