Navy holds six persons engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets

Six (06) persons who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets at Mundampiddi coastal area in Periya Aru, were apprehended with two fishing craft during a search operation carried out by Navy on 2^nd May 2020.

SL Navy conducts continuous patrols and search operations to curb the illegal fishing practices. Accordingly, these suspects who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets were apprehended by Naval personnel attached to North Central Naval Command on coastal observation duty, whilst a search operation at Mundampiddi costal area in Periya Aru.Navy also seized 02 traditional craft (wallam), 02 banned nets and 02 OBMs.

The suspects are residents of Pallimunai area in Mannar aged between 20 to 32. They along with the craft, nets and OBMs were handed over to Iluppukadawai Police for onward action.
