Navy holds six persons engaged in illegal fishing with banned nets

Six (06) persons who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets were apprehended by Navy during a patrol carried out in the seas off Trincomalee harbour, on 01st May 2020.

Sri Lanka Navy constantly conducts patrols to curb the illegal means of fishing in order to preserve marine resources. As such extension, these 06 suspects who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets were apprehended during a patrol conducted in the seas off Trincomalee harbour by naval personnel attached to Eastern Naval Command. A dinghy, an OBM and banned net used by them were also taken into naval custody.

The suspects are residents of China Bay, Trincomalee area in the ages between 24 to 38. Apprehended persons along with the dinghy, OBM and unauthorized net were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries-Trincomalee for onward action.
