Three persons apprehended by Navy for engaging in illegal fishing with banned nets

Three (03) persons who engaged in illegal fishing using banned nets were apprehended by Navy during a search operation carried out in Mulankavil area, on 25^th April 2020.

In order to preserve marine resources, Sri Lanka Navy conducts frequent patrols to prevent the illegal means of fishing. As such extension, naval personnel attached to North Central Naval Command whilst on duty in a beach observation point at Ambupuram beach in Mulankavil area, these three (03) persons with 500m long banned net, were taken into naval custody.

The suspects are residents of the same area in the ages between 22 to 28. Apprehended persons along with the banned net were handed over to the Mulankavil Police for onward action.
