Navy holds banned fishing nets

Sri Lanka Navy held a haul of banned fishing nets, during patrols carried out in Nilaweli and Batticoloa areas, on 19^th and 20^th April 2020.

SL Navy frequently conducts operations in the seas around the island to prevent illegal means of fishing and accordingly Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command held 06 unauthorized nets which were in a fishing hut and in a dinghy during a patrol carried out at Erakkandi area in Nelaweli on 19^th April 2020. Meanwhile 03 banned nets which had been laid for illegal fishing in Batticoloa lagoon, were held by Navy on 20^th April 2020.

The banned nets taken into custody by the Navy were handed over to Assistant Directorates of Fisheries in Trincomalee and Batticoloa for onward action.
